Pathanamthitta: In an inspiring act of solidarity and service, the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church will host a Women’s Conference and a charity hair donation event at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Pathanamthitta tomorrow. This unique initiative, organised by the Malankara Catholic Youth Movement (MCYM) of the Pathanamthitta Ecclesiastical District, aims to support cancer patients and empower young women within the church community.
The conference will be inaugurated by Bishop Dr. Samuel Mar Irenios Metropolitan, with notable guests including social media influencer Aparna S (Quppi) and Joice Mary Antony, councillor of Muvattupuzha municipality. Jisha Jose, president of MCYM Pathanamthitta Ecclesiastical District, will also play a significant role in the proceedings.
Hair donation is a profound gesture of empathy and support for those undergoing cancer treatment, who often lose their hair due to chemotherapy. Donating hair for wig-making can significantly uplift the spirits of cancer patients, helping to restore their self-esteem and confidence during such a challenging time. The symbolism behind hair donation lies in the gift of part of oneself to aid someone in a deeply personal battle.
The involvement of the youth in this initiative highlights their commitment to charitable causes and community service, core values that the Syro Malankara Catholic Church continuously fosters among its members. By organising this event, the young women of the MCYM are not only providing practical assistance to those in need but also raising awareness about cancer and the importance of community support.
The hair collected during the event will be used to make wigs in association with Anugrha, the social service society of the Bhadrasana, ensuring that the donations reach those most in need. This act of charity is expected to draw participants from over 100 parishes across the Ecclesiastical District, reflecting the widespread support for this compassionate cause within the church community.
As the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church looks forward to this significant event, the anticipation and enthusiasm among the youth and wider community members underline the deep connection and commitment to faith-led service that characterises this vibrant church community.
