The Pathanamthitta Eparchy of the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church joyously commenced its Youth Year with the launch of the “INICIO 2024” programme, a series of initiatives aimed at invigorating and engaging the youth within the church community. This auspicious beginning took place on March 3rd, 2024, at the sacred Perunad Kurisumala Pilgrimage Church in Ranni, marking a significant milestone in the church’s calendar.
The day’s events began with a solemn procession of the Way of the Cross at 11 am, reflecting the youth’s deep-rooted faith and devotion. This was followed by an afternoon seminar spearheaded by Rev. Fr. Pradeep Vazhatharamalayil, who provided guidance and inspiration to the young attendees. The conference, chaired by Eparchy President Mr. Bibin Abraham, witnessed the official inauguration of the Youth Year by the respected Eparchy Bishop, His Excellency Dr. Samuel Mar Irenios. The operational year was further inaugurated by Monsignor Varghese Mathew Kalayil Vadakkethil, the Vicar General of the Pathanamthitta Eparchy, emphasizing the church’s commitment to youth empowerment.
The highlight of the event was the lighting of the Youth Year lamp, a symbolic gesture of enlightenment and hope, by Bishop Mar Irenios, Mr. Bibin Abraham, and the presidents of five Ecclesiastical Districts within the eparchy. This act signified the collective aspiration for a year filled with spiritual growth, fellowship, and service among the youth.
In recognition of the church’s newest clergy and the newly elected Vice President Ms. Aksa Rajan, and Mampara Unit, the gathering also served as an occasion to honour their dedication and service. The Eparchy committee facilitated the release of an integrated register for the 2024-25 action year, outlining the comprehensive plans and initiatives designed to engage the youth in various dimensions of church life and society at large.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 300 young people from various units across the eparchy, evidencing the vibrant spirit and unity of the Malankara Syrian Catholic youth. The seminar included speeches from distinguished guests, including Rev. Fr. Paul Nilackal Thekkethil, the Vicar of Ranni Perunad Ecclesiastical District, Eparchy Director Rev. Fr. Job Pathalil, Assistant Director Rev. Fr. Scott Sleeba Pulimoottil, and Animator Sister C. Jowan SIC, all of whom offered their insights and blessings for the year ahead.
The “INICIO 2024” launch was a testament to the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church’s enduring commitment to nurturing a dynamic, faithful, and socially responsible youth community. As the church moves forward into the year, the Pathanamthitta Eparchy remains a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration for young Catholics, guided by the visionary leadership of its clergy and lay leaders.
