Pathanamthitta: The Pathanamthitta Diocese recently marked its 14th Diocesan Day with a grand celebration of the Divine Mercy Congress, held at the Mylapra Thiruhridaya Malankara Syrian Catholic Church. The event was inaugurated by the first bishop of the diocese, His Grace Yoohanon Mar Chrysostom Metropolitan.
Prominent figures like Shalom TV Chairman Chev. Benny Punnathara, Monsignor Dr. Johnson Kaimalayil Corepiscopa, Father Binoj Karimaruthinkal, and Father Joel Povvath led various sessions during the congress. The event also featured an exhibition on the miracles of divine mercy, organized under the leadership of the esteemed Fr. Clint M.C.B.S.
The congress was the culmination of a year-long focus on holy Eucharistic-centered reflections and prayer services. Esteemed priests, sisters, members of the Pastoral Council, gospel team members, trustees-secretaries, Sunday School headmasters, and special invitees from all parishes participated in the event.
A key highlight of the day was the Divine Mercy Procession in the evening, which marked a historic first in the diocese. The closing benediction was given by Diocesan Bishop Samuel Mar Irenios Metropolitan.
The services were led by Diocesan Vicar General Venerable Varghese Mathew Kalayilvadakethil, Rev. Dr. Sijo James Charivuparambil, Fr. Paul Nilackal Thekkethil, and Fr. Jins Meppurath.
Furthermore, the Mylapra Thiruhridaya Malankara Syrian Catholic Church will host a special Divine Mercy Congress for children on January 28, Sunday, at 8:30 AM. Over a thousand children from 100 parishes are expected to participate in this significant event, marking a new chapter in the diocese’s commitment to nurturing faith among its younger members.
