The Eucharistic Prayer
The Dialogue between the priest and the people is among the most ancient liturgical formulas, present in all liturgies at this point.
- The priest invites the people to lift up their hearts and minds to Christ, who sits at the right hand of the Father.
- The people are then encouraged to give thanks in holy reverence, to which they respond: “It is meet and right.”
- This exchange associates the congregation with the priest in the sacred act that follows.
- The people then join in the song of the angels: “Holy, holy, holy,” recognizing the presence of the angels who join their praise with the Church on earth.
