Thiruvananthapuram: On the occasion of Cardinal Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos’s 65th birthday, the head of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church received heartfelt birthday wishes from prominent Christian leaders. His Eminence Mor Gregorios Joseph, Metropolitan of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, visited the Major Archiepiscopal Curia in Thiruvananthapuram to offer his congratulations. His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Barnabas, Suffragan Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Church, also visited to extend his warm regards.
Born on June 15, 1959, in Mallappally, Kerala, Isaac Thottunkal (Cardinal Cleemis) was ordained as a priest in 1986. He later pursued higher studies in Rome and was consecrated as a bishop in 2001, adopting the name Isaac Mar Cleemis. In 2007, he was appointed as the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012, becoming the first cardinal of the Syro-Malankara rite.
