Suvisesha Sangham for Sisters at the Daughters of Mary

The training programme for the Reverend Sisters of the Suvisesha Sangham was held at the Generalate of the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary, Kudapanakunnu, Trivandrum, from 7 to 9 June 2016.

All together 48 sisters from different provinces of the congregation participated in the training.

Rev. Dr Antony Kakkanatt, Rev. Sr Francina DM, Rev. Sr Mary Prasada DM imparted the classes.

This training programme was conducted in view of encouraging the sisters to give leadership to the Suvisesha Sangham at parish level.

The second phase of the training will be held from 30 to 31 August 2016.

Rev. Fr Idicula Pandiyath was called to Eternal Rest

Rev. Fr Idicula Pandiyath, a senior priest of the Eparchy of Pathanamthitta of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, was called to eternal rest on 3rd June 2016. He was 88 years old.

The funeral ceremony was officiated by Most Rev. Yoohanon Mar Chrysostom, the bishop of Pathanamthitta on Monday, 6th June 2016 at St Thomas Malankara Catholic Church, Thumpamon. Most Rev. Joshua Mar Ignathios and Rt. Rev. Samuel Mar Irenios, many priests and religious and faithful were present during the burial service.

He served as a professor in Major Seminary, Nalanchira and had been the spiritual father of many young priests in our Church.

He served in several parishes such as Kadammanitta, Naranganam, Vayalathala, Kizhavalloor, Lakoor, Poonkavu, Vallikode-Kottayam, Attarikom, Ramanchira, Pampumala, Mariagiri, Mecode, Aruvancode, Aadichavilakom, Mankad, Puthencavu, Kurichimuttam, Pulamon, Manjathopu, Odanavattom, Thrikkammamangal, Kayamkulam, Peringala, Puthuppally, Venmony, Punthala, Koodal, Nedumancavu, Karacadu, Kurumpala, Oonnukal, Elamand, and Karimanthode.

May God Reward him Eternal Rest.

MANNA 2016 Kuwait

Phase 1

The first phase of MVBS (Malankara Vacation Bible School), “MANNA 2016” was conducted by Malankara Catholic Liturgical School (MCLS) of KMRM on 28th May 2016 at Holy Family Cathedral Hall, Kuwait City. This was for the group – KG to STD III. The Classes were led by Fr. Binoy Kochukarikathil and MCLS faculty. We had little ones learning songs, dances, Bible stories and of course enjoying games. We believe, the few hours they spent will turn out to be fruitful in their lives.

Phase 2

The second phase of Malankara Vacation Bible School (MVBS), “MANNA 2016”, a three day camp conducted by Malankara Catholic Liturgical School (MCLS) of KMRM on 2nd June(5.00PM) to 4th June,2016(6.00PM) at Kabed Vibgyor Training Center. This was for students from – STD IV to STD X. The Camp was led by Fr. Binoy Kochukarikkathil supported by MCLS faculty and volunteers.

The camp was inaugurated by Fr.Binoy Kochukarikkathil imparting a message on the theme–MANNA, symbolically sharing the bread and wine. Manna Theme song, written by Babuji Bathery was sung during the occasion. KMRM President Mr. Sammon A.O ,General Secretary Mr. Shaji George, Treasurer Mr. Kuriakose Joseph, Advisory Board Chairman Mr. Binu. K.John and the other officials were present during the event. MVBS Convener Mr. Koshy Mulamootil welcomed and MCLS Head Mistress Mrs. Catherine Binu thanked all gathered for the function. Mrs. Ancy Liju compered the meeting.

The Camp was featured with a splendid combination of classes, Bible studies, games, music, dance, meditation, yoga and many fun-filled activities. Each activity had a message to carry through. The classes explained how each and every child is blessed in a unique way, how to face and overcome challenges in life, and how to grow in sharing and caring.

On the final day of the camp, a rally took place with children holding flags and wearing crowns, proclaiming the message of the camp. After the rally, Camp Convener Mr. Koshy Mulamootil thanked Fr. Binoy, who carried away the camp to a world of fun and enthusiasm in all its essence. He also thanked the parents, teachers, volunteers especially Liz Maria Kuriakose, Varsha Elsa Jacob, Divya George, Maria Joseph, Bibin Thomas and all others who supported.

There was a closing ceremony meeting presided by Camp leader Mr. Jesvin Alellil Biju. Rohan Jacob welcomed all gathered. Nikhita Ann Sam, on behalf of the kids did the camp evaluation. Mr.Sammon A.O, President-KMRM, Advisory Board Chairman Mr.Binu. K. John, Camp Volunteer Mr. Babuji Bathery, children representative Shanon Rony felicitated .MCLS Head Mistress Mrs. Catherine Binu gave Farewell advice to the Children. KMRM General Secretary Mr.Shaji George, Treasurer Mr. Kuriakose Joseph, Working Secretary Mr. Sunny Thomas and other office bearers of KMRM were present during the function.

Rohan Jacob & Liya Mathew were awarded the best Campers and Aleena Mathew, Manna Little Angel of the Camp. Hima Mary Jacob rendered vote of thanks. Sharon Ann Rony compered the meeting. The campers enjoyed a special video presentation of the Highlights of the 3 day camp-MANNA 2016 which was directed by Bibin Sam Thomas.71 MCLS students and 23 teachers had participated in the camp.

Church Blessed at Thenkarakonam

The newly constructed Malankara Syrian Catholic Church at Thenkarakonam was blessed by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, on 3rd June 2016.

Rev. Sr Mary Clottilda DM is called to eternal reward

Rev. Sr Mary Clottilda DM, a member of the Daughters of Mary, Marthandom Province, was called to eternal reward on Tuesday 31 May 2016. She was 88 years old.

Funeral service was conducted on Wednesday 1 June 2016 at the Marthandom Provincial House.

His Excellency Most Rev. Vincent Mar Paulose officiated the service.  She is the daughter of late Thomas and Mariamma of Mannamplackal family at Chirakadavu, Pala.

May her soul rest in peace!

Five New Deacons for the Syro Malankara Catholic Church

His Excellency Most Rev. Samuel Mar Irenios, the Auxiliary Bishop of Trivandrum ordained five seminarians as Deacons for the Major Archieparchy of Trivandrum, at St Mary’s Cathedral, Pattom, Trivandrum on 28 May 2016.

They are Rev. Dn. Mecherimukalil George, Rev. Dn. Ilaballoor Jacob, Rev. Dn. Vadakethuruthel Varghese, Rev. Dn. Varuvila Benedict and Rev. Dn. Parayilkada Jose.

Baselios Cardinal Cleemis visits Chief Minister Sri Pinarayi Vijayan

Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, the Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church and the President of CBCI and KCBC, visited Sri Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, on 27 May 2016. His Beatitude congratulated the Chief Minister with a bouquet and presented him a wooden sculpture of Jesus Christ. “A good start by the new Government gives the feeling that governance is for everyone,” said His Beatitude Catholicos after a 15 minute long discussion.

His Beatitude, promised the support of the Catholic Church to the new government.

Dalit Christians in India Honored with Awards

On the occasion of 125th anniversary of the birth of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar , one of the architects of the Indian Constitution and a past champion of Dalit rights, an awards ceremony honouring the Dalit community was conducted by CBCI Commission for Scheduled Caste/Backward Caste. Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos , President of CBCI, honored Mr Arokiya Das, a Dalit Christain, by handing over a community works award on 23 May 2016, in New Delhi.

His Beatitude presented awards to 72 Dalit Christains. On the occasion, His beatitude said that “Not enough has been done by the church for the dalits in the economic, social and religious spheres. We have a long way to go.” In the presence of the distinguished guests Archbishop Salvatore  Penacchio, the Apostolic Nuncio of India and Nepal, honored Rev. Fr Devasahayam Raj, the secretary of CBCI SCST Commission. They were given memento and a certificate recognizing their work aimed at empowering Dalit Christains. Hon’ble  Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, chairman of Human Rights also participated in the ceremony.

The sixth session of training for the third batch of Suvisesha Sangham was held at the Catholicate Centre

The sixth session of training for the third batch of Suvisesha Sangham was held at the Catholicate Centre, Pattom, from 19th May to the 21st of May 2016.

Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos gave the message on the need for spiritual awakening to the members of the Suvisesha Sangham. His Beatitude said that spiritual awakening forms individuals, families and communities to serve the Gospel in our Church.

Quoting psalms 91, his beatitude assured God’s protection to the people who stand near to Him.

Most Rev. Vincent Mar Paulose, Vice Chairman of the Synodal Commisssion for evangelization, Most Rev. Thomas Mar Anthonios, the Curia Bishop, Rev. Fr Antony Kakkanatt, Director of Suvisesha Sangham, Rev. Fr Varghese Angadiyil, Rev. Fr Daniel Poovanattil, Rev. Sr Francina D.M and Rev. Sr Mary Prasada D.M – took classes on various topics.

Eucharistic adoration, Holy confession, experience-sharing, special training for kaivaippu services were conducted during the training programme. The preparatory retreat for the kaivaippu service will be held on 14th July and the kaivaippu ceremony will be on 14 and 15 July 2016, the feast day of commemoration of the Servant of God Mar Ivanios at Pattom Cathedral.
