The Holy Qurbono

All the sacrifices of the past, as stated in the Epistle to the Hebrews, were but “shadows of the good things to come” (Hebrews 10:1). They were intended for a time and came to an end when Christ died on the cross. By His sacrifice on the cross, Christ fulfilled all the sacrifices, not only of the Old Law but also of the Natural Law. His sacrifice is the sacrifice of the New Covenant, fulfilling the ancient covenant of God—first with mankind, then with Israel—in the New Covenant with the Church, the New Israel.

By offering Himself in sacrifice for all humanity and shedding His blood to atone for the sin of the world, Christ reconciled mankind with God and accomplished the ultimate purpose of all sacrifice. The sacrifice of the Cross was completed by the Resurrection, which served as the sign of God's acceptance of Christ's sacrifice. Through His death, Christ paid the ransom for humanity’s sin, and through His resurrection, He raised humanity to a new life in Himself.

The sacrifice of Christ is both the model and the source of the sacrifice that all humanity must make. It is a sign of supreme power, enabling us to die with Him to sin and to rise with Him to new life.
