Holy Qurbono

Ancient tradition holds that the rite of Antioch, known as the Liturgy of St. James, mirrors the original practices of Jerusalem's Church, overseen by James, the brother of Jesus. While the current form of the rite likely dates back to the 4th or 5th century, its core elements trace their roots to much earlier, possibly apostolic, times, rendering it one of the most venerable rites in the Church's history.

Originally conducted in Aramaic, the language spoken by Jesus and his Apostles, the liturgy transitioned to Greek in Antioch, reflecting the linguistic landscape of prominent cities within the Roman Empire, including Rome itself. As Christianity spread to rural areas, the liturgy was translated into Aramaic or Syriac, colloquially known as Syriac, akin to the later translation of the Roman Rite into Latin.
