The Communion
The Communion is administered to the people under both kinds, as is customary in the Eastern Churches.
- A particle from the host, called the 'live coal', recalls the live coal from Isaiah's vision, with which the prophet's lips were touched to purify him (Is. vi, 6).
- This particle is dipped in the precious blood and is received by the faithful standing, following the universal custom of the ancient Church.
The Holy Eucharist is regarded as a token of the new life of the Resurrection and is referred to by the Fathers as the “medicine” and “gift” of immortality. The Qurbana is not only a sacrifice but also a sacred banquet, preparing us for the day when we shall share the eternal banquet with Christ in the heavenly kingdom.
