The Procession of the Mysteries

The Veil of the Sanctuary, which is drawn during the priest's and servers' communion in the sanctuary, is drawn aside once again. The holy mysteries are then held up before the people in what is called the Procession of the Mysteries.

  • Originally, this was a procession through the Church, accompanied by lights, incense, and the waving of fans.
  • It serves as a solemn invitation for the people to approach the holy table for communion.
  • Symbolically, this procession represents the Second Coming of Christ. At this moment, the Church looks “beyond the veil” to where Christ sits at the right hand of the Father, and the faithful receive His Body and Blood as a token of His Second Coming.
