The Creed
The congregation recites the Creed, making a public profession of faith. The Creed follows the formulation established at the First Council of Nicaea (325 A.D.) and later revised at the Council of Constantinople (381 A.D.).
Key distinctions:
- In the Eastern Churches, the Creed does not include the clause “proceeding from the Son” (Filioque), which was added later in the Western Church.
- The Creed in the Syrian Liturgy begins with “We believe”, emphasizing the communal nature of the Church's faith.
