The Anaphora
The Anaphora, or Offering, is the solemn Prayer of Thanksgiving or Eucharist, central to the liturgy. It recalls the prayer of thanksgiving uttered by Christ at the Last Supper, along with the words and actions by which He instituted the Eucharist.
In the Antiochene Rite, the original Anaphora is attributed to St. James, but over time, many others have been introduced—seventy in total. The version referenced here is the Anaphora of Pope St. Xystus.
