The Dialogue between the priest and the people is among the most ancient liturgical formulas, present in all liturgies at this point.
The priest invites the people to lift up their hearts and minds to Christ, who sits at the right hand of the Father.
The people are then encouraged to give thanks in holy reverence, to which they respond: “It is meet and right.”
This exchange associates the congregation with the priest in the sacred act that follows.
The people then join in the song of the angels: “Holy, holy, holy,” recognizing the presence of the angels who join their praise with the Church on earth.
